The first copyright act (Law) in the UK was passed in 1911. Most matters of copyright (music) in the UK are dealt with by the Performing Right Society (PRS). At any one time, PRS administers up to 16 million works.

Copy right can be a complex matter. The following notes are meant as general information only. For more detailed information, within the UK, please contact the PRS at Copyright House, 29/33 Berners Street, London W1T 3AB.

Even if you only want to play the radio, or TV, or music tapes or C.Ds to improve the atmosphere of your office or waiting room, no matter how big or small your premises are, you are playing music in public, and you need a performing rights music licence.

There are 40 different tariffs, depending on the sort of premises you operate from. The PRS music licence continues from year to year. If you work on your own, and have only one client on your premises at a time, then you may need a small premises licence. When last checked, this was £54 per year. You can obtain a music licence, or a full list of tariffs from the PRS at the above address.

If you use Mindtech music, it is licence free.

Mindtech Copying Policy

Copying has a lot of grey areas and can be a complex problem. With this in mind, Mindtech Productions has commissioned a range of background music, with and without subliminal messages, with the aim of giving you, the Therapist, the use of music without the need for a music licence from the PRS.

By purchasing music from Mindtech Productions you obtain the right to:

  • Use the music in public
  • Use it as background for your own tapes / C.Ds
  • Use for any therapeutic use, such as giving a copy to a client for relaxation

Restrictions

  1. You may not make copies of any kind for resale commercially or individually. Used as a backing for your own voice, or reselling the original C.Ds purchased from Mindtech Productions is ok. For this purpose we can offer multiple copy discounts, please see below.
  2. Copies must carry the Mindtech web address: www.mindtec.co.uk
  3. Please note that the Stress Buster C.D. and any training C.D. / tapes or written information are fully copyright protected and must not be copied or broadcast in any form whatsoever without written permission of Mindtech Productions.
  4. The audio visual / written content of any works sold or supplied by Mindtech Productions remains in the intellectual and moral ownership of the composer or author of such works
